Celebration! Black History From Ancient Africa to Modern Day Houston

Live music, dance and kid-friendly poetry presenting Black History from ancient Africa to today. From Queen Nefertiti to Duke Ellington and Ketanji Brown Jackson, this show presents the unique role African Americans play in American history. A rousing celebration for all ages and backgrounds, featuring original poetry by two Houston Poet Laureates.

Chinese Folktales: Wit and Wisdom of the Ancestors

Financial Workshop: Increasing Cash Flow and Manage Debt with inclusion on Budgeting

This workshop will share concepts and strategies that can be implemented to increase cash flow. We will show some of the tools we provide on our website where individuals can go to calculate a savings or debt reduction plan. Additionally, we will show a basic budgeting foundation attendees can implement to start a budgeting strategy for themselves. No registration required.

Juneteenth
  • Location: United States of America
Juneteenth National Independence Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans after the Civil War. Early celebrations began locally in 1866 and spread throughout the country until it was made a federal holiday in 2021. It is also known as Jubilee Day, Emancipation Day and Black Independence Day.

The King Cole Legacy Experience

This breathtaking performance is a contemporary listening landscape that revisits, relives, and re-imagines the combined musical repertoire of the late great Nat King Cole and his daughter Natalie Cole. Reel Talk is a series of documentary screenings at University Branch Library with brief discussions of the films after they are shown. This month, we’re viewing Oceans. This documentary is a visually stunning Disney Nature documentary that takes viewers on an immersive journey beneath the waves, showcasing the incredible diversity of marine life and the interconnectedness of ocean ecosystems. It runs 1 hour and 24 minutes. It is rated G.

Tabletop Society is a board gaming club for adults, college students, and teens. We meet on the 4th Thursday of each month and focus on a different game each time we meet. It’s a great way to try out new games for free. This month we’ll be playing Summer Camp – collect cards and earn merit badges to become the ultimate summer camper! No registration required.
